What a dump...

Over the past few days it has rained and rained here in Southern California - more than I can remember in a long time. As a result over 4 feet of snow has dumped on the local mountains. Which creates unusually ideal conditions for skiing. Did you see me up at Mt. High you ask? Heck no! I toyed with the idea today after work and when I saw about 10 miles of backed up traffic creeping up the mountain I said forget it! In times like these everyone and their brother who don't really hit up the local resorts hops in the car for a day of snow play; leaving us regulars shut out. But all good I just enjoyed the beautiful view of the mountains this morning. Truly breathtaking!

Tubing!

So last Friday I cut work so Lisa and I could go tubing with our buddies the J family.
Bryce is 4 and in my Sunday school class. I have such a blast hanging out with him!
So the tubing park is part of Mountain High (my favorite local resort). Basically they have 7 lanes running on this awesome slope that overlooks the high desert. The view from up there is really spectacular. From the top you jump in your tube and when its your turn, the attendant gives you a push. Away you go! They have the lanes designed in such a way that no matter how hard you hit the sides or spin you never go over into the next lane. At the end you lightly kiss a bail of hay and coast to a stop. I'm not sure if Lisa and I had more fun or the kids...

Here's a pic of me and Bryce cheesin - you can see the tube was way bigger than he is...

The Lord's table and becoming more relational...

So to coincide with one of my new year's resolutions Nicole and I have started The Lord's Table - a eating course designed to set you free from the sin of over-indulging in food (something I have a problem with). I want my body and life to be Christ-honoring, and the way I eat now is not. So here goes day #1

Weight: 184
BMI: 26.4

And about being relational. I have been going through monthly coaching sessions through the church for the past 8 months or so and one of the action items that I never seem to get to is being a more relational person. A person who is concerned about the people around him and who cares for the needs and well being of others rather than talking crap.

I was really challenged yesterday by the sermon Pastor Rob gave and have decided to really start working on this. I made great progress yesterday with Shelly, then blew it big time with my sister this morning. WHY IS THIS SO HARD!?! is it really that difficult to be a nice person (rhetorical Nicole!) Anyhow - for those of you who interact with me regularly; kick me in the shins if I'm being a jerk...

200 days...

WOW! Sunday was 200 days since I quit smoking! Time seems to be flying by...

Lines...

It seems that Southern California is land of lines. Lines at the grocery store, lines at Starbucks, lines to get on the train, lines to get off the train... It occurred to me recently that from a very young age we are groomed to form "single file" lines. By nature its meant to help up organize ourselves so no one gets hurts. Of course there is always the one jerk (especially on the 91 freeway) that feels he does not need to wait in line and takes "cuts" - of course I would never think of such a thing...

At any rate this last week I went up the mountain for some night skiing. This after the tremendous storm that dumped 2 feet on our local resort. Needless to say he lines were tremendous. And because it is a small time local resort they didn't have the staff to accommodate the influx of skiers and snowboarders.

Usually I can get up the mountain by 7pm after work and get 7-10 runs in before I go home. However the lines were so long I only got about 4 runs in - what a waste of a tank of gas and frustrating...
I will give the mountain a re-try tonight, maybe the lines will be better...
Not so much at Starbucks this morning - 15 people ahead of me

Resolutions...

Well here it is - the 8th day of the year and I have had time to really think about my new years' resolutions. There is a long list of what I really want to do with my life. My coach at church has greatly helped me to seek how God wanted me to change last year. I know there is still a lot of work to be done - so here goes...

1. Lose the post smoking weight - I have put on about 18 pounds since I quit smoking and it needs to come off - I just cant stand it anymore!

2. Grow as a leader - God has entrusted me with the spiritual teaching of 15 four year olds every week. I need to step up and show those kids the Lord; prove to them through His work in my life that He exists and is powerful to change people.

3. Stop procrastinating! Ugg there is unfinished projects all over my house and I am not sticking to my weekly schedule. I set a schedule for myself that allows for the right amount of rest and hard work and the balance is off. I never seem to get anything done!

4. Be a better friend. I am so quick to gripe about and judge my friends - If I were a true friend I would love people and be more helpful.

5. Get Financially Fit! This one is a long time coming... It is hard to manage a mortgage and I still work some weekends at my Dad's place to make ends meet. I want the books to balance better.
6. Ski more! YAHOO the snow is great this year.

7. Cook the cat! (Lee and Albert - don't scroll any further)
