Day 6

Today we continued with the children… Bible Lessons and worship songs in the morning… Usually when I teach at home I get 3-5 min tops to present a lesson to the kids… These kids are so smart and attentive that I am able to teach for 30 min and the learning is very interactive… most of them are familiar with the Bible and the story so the lesson is more of a conversation… I really enjoy the format.

Because some of the missionary kids don’t speak English we used the Japanese Bible often to clarify the teaching… its amazing to see a 4 year old translate God’s word…

This afternoon we had free time! WOO HOO! Some of the team went shopping, others vegged out around the retreat center – I went skiing!

The ski resort in Karuizawa was not very large but still lots of fun.

Laurie went with me and we had a blast… there was a good variety of intermediate and advanced runs available – all not labeled very well – the diamond, square, and circle system used in the US apparently is not utilized in Japan… so we kind of figured out what the slope was like when you jumped over the crest of the hill – fun times…

There were however, many poorly translated signs around to add to our enjoyment…

The view of the village was awesome from the top of the mountain…

Later in the night we got together with all the missionary families for a night of fun and games…Tomorrow we have our last session with the kids and we move on to Tokyo for some exploring…

The signs are SOOOOO funny!! Jeff and I always get the biggest kick out of them:) We wonder, with all the Americans living around here, couldn't they just ask ONE person to check on the English before printing for the entire public to see (and laugh)???
